When it comes to making quality contemporary pop/r&b songs in Nigeria, Seyi Shay can always be counted on to deliver. This is not to say that her entire discography is full of masterpieces but the bops far outweigh the flops so she's good.
We've also been waiting patiently for her to release new music! Yes we got "Airbrush" and "Juba" last year as well as her excellent Blackmagic collab but we NEED an album. Her solid debut project, Seyi or Shay, trumped every single female album release within that period, including both Yemi Alade and Tiwa Savage's underwhelming sophomore efforts. Yet she's still so so underrated. (#Justice4Shay).
That being said, sources close to Ms Shay are hinted at a possible new album release this year and now she seems to be adding fuel to those rumors with the release of a new single, Yolo Yolo. The new dance track seems to be a buzz single before the real deal with Seyi thanking the creator for blessings and urging us to be positive in the new year by "giving happiness a chance" with an infectious afrocentric latin flavour with delightful horns and a smooth bass courtesy of DJ Coublon.
THIS is what a pop song should be doing, making you forget life's worries and just dance. Is it her best track? Not even close, but it still delivers on the Seyi Shay quality and we're grateful for it.
Here's hoping Ms. Shay blesses us with more new tunes soon.
